A website that I've posted ads and job wanted etc with no hassle, suddently is saying I have to register with my account to post. I've never seen this before. I have not even entered any email address -- and yet I'm seeing this on all categories I want to post to. What is going on? Is there some new technology that it knows who I am? How can I beat this? thanks

thanks Turtle,
that was first thing that came to mind.
I found five cookies for that site deleted them. Still get this.
I could delete all my cookies, but do you think it's deeper that that. I've heard of reverse cookies, or something else maybe?

I never heard of reverse cookies.
The only other way to identify you would be via your IP.
Install http://www.anchorfree.com/ HotSPot Shield and see what you get.
Also, you could install a browser that you haven't used before (e.g. Firefox, or something else), where you have no cookies at all, and see what happens.

What leads you to believe it knows who you are? It sounds like they just started forcing people to register.

Chuck:
Good point, this crossed my mind, but I posted on their forum and no one seems to know what I'm talking about, but you post, has now motivated me to try to reach the company and see what the deal is.
Is there any downsides to not showing you IP? I do remember certian occations, some site says, we see your IP... are there occasions where not showing your IP could cause you some grief?

No, there is no downside of NOT showing your IP.
Except stupid ass websites that use this as the only means to ID you.

Turtle, I decided for reasons I'll get into later not to hide my IP.
Question. I downloaded Hotspot Shield. It's in my apps. I can't trash it becuase it says it's open. But it's not in the dock. How do I close it?

There is a red or green shield like icon in the menu bar right hand side, it allows you to Quit Hotspot Shield.
You can also run Activity Monitor (from Applications/Utilities) and Quit Process "Hotspot Shield"
Then you should be able to trash it.
