I work at a library where we are being given a mac by a donor that contains files that need to be archived. Moved to an offsite RAID storage kind of archived. When ever we do this on a PC, we use FCIV http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841290 which will create a checksum as an XML file but will also read a file and a previously created XML checksum to verify the files validity when moved to another server.
Does anyone know of a mac app that will do the same? Ive looked at MD5 http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/29896 but that only creates a checksum message as a .txt file not an XML and will not check a files validity as FCIV will when a file is moved to another server. Archivists are very particular about how their data is saved and being able to verify the validity of the files using checksums like the ones created by FCIV is essential.
I really appreciate any help or suggestions you may be able to give me.

It's even free.

Why not just loop through the files in the directory creating .md5 files containing checksums of each of the files, and then when you move to the new server loop through the directory and match checksums to files?

Put everything into a compressed (not read/write) dmg, and it will have a checksum on it that is verified when opening the dmg.

Thanks Larkost! Coupling this with an app called checksum Validator I think we may have a winner! Also tried using an app called DMG Converter that is a GUI for making diskimages, just drag and drop. Makes custom sizes...
Thanks for everyone's help.
THis is just one way Id be interested to hear any other ideat
