Where can I find either an application or a Dashboard widget that gives me decibel/volume reading beyond Apple's internal microphone Sound control panel?

Hi folks, first off is this the correct section to post it in? I didn't see either "Dashboard" or "Widgets" in any of the subject descriptions on the front forum page, so I assume that this is close enough.

Second thing: I need either an application or a widget that will give me a decibel/volume readout of my sound, whether it's sound coming into my microphone, or sound coming out of my speakers. I need the program to use very little CPU, and so Apple's Sound control panel won't work (uses like 25% watching the little bars go back and forth, and it's not detailed enough). I am having a lot of difficulty finding such an app/widget, can anyone help me out?

There are some decibel meters available for the iPhone, but they only go to about 113DB.

Anything beyond that would be pointless on an iPhone, since the mic is probably already brickwalled at that point.

Actually this is for my iMac and MacBook, I don't have an iPhone.
