Hello just got the new iPod nano, I had an iPod Touch 1st Gen, all of my music is on my desktop, I want to copy it to my new ipod, then I want to use my macbook as the I don't know what you want to call it, host or what not.
When I hook the iPod Nano to the laptop it says that this is not the computer that is authorized to work this iPod. I have been looking for the programs that copy from your ipod, but I can not get it to work. Can someone give me ay ideas ?
Thanks

Transfer your library to your MacBook from your desktop.

Copy your music from the desktop to the laptop computer using a cable (Firewire or Ethernet).
You can either turn on Personal Music Sharing in iTunes and copy over in iTunes (never tried that myself) or File Sharing in System Preferences and do the copy using Finder.

I know of a couple options here.
iTunes 9 has the new "Home Sharing" option, which is mostly lame - but will help you precisely for the case you have here. Get both machines on the same network, log both of them into iTunes, and enable Home Sharing on both machines. You should then see the library on the original machine and all the music. I think you need to manually drag and drop to copy from one to the other, but there is also a "keep synced" option that might do it. Then, when you buy something on one Mac, it'll auto-sync to the other one.
And then there's the raw file option. Connect your new Mac to the old one (laptop) using a Firewire cable, then restart the old machine in "Target Disk Mode". (Restart the laptop and hold the "T" key till you see the Firewire symbol on the screen.) This will look just like an external hard drive. Find your iTunes library and then drag and drop it to your new one.
The first option is probably best.
