Why does this happen, and how do I change this behavior? I've reinstalled FF but it still does the same thing.

Dunno, man... never seen that. You can't bring it to the foreground? Or it just starts up behind other windows, but then you can bring it forward?

It just starts as an app that doesn't have focus. Clicking on its window brings it focus. But this is totally weird and it's never happened before.

Does it start in the background even if you just click on the Firefox icon and then don't do anything else?

Happens here too. I've never noticed; I hardly ever use Firefox.

Yes, even if no other window is active, FF starts in the background. This IS after installing SL, by the way; I never noticed anything odd with it before.

Are you using growl? One user reported that removing it from growl's list helped him.
Another user reported that he stopped growl from its pref pane, then launched FF, then restarted growl and the issue went away.

I'm running FF 3.5.3 and OS X 10.6.1. By the way, Growl 1.1.4 works great! I wish I'd heard about it a long time ago...
