A few days ago I got a strange message from Mail (that in retrospect I should have recorded), which I think told me something about an IMAP path being invalid and offering to fix it for me. I let it do so (though I probably shouldn't have), and then I couldn't trash any messages and would get a null mailbox error if I tried. I also noticed that I could no longer access sent mail.
I had never had any difficulties with this account before at all, so today I tried some troubleshooting steps. I deleted and recreated the account, which solved the trash problem but made it so that I no longer have my IMAP sent folder at all. All there is is the standard Sent folder without any IMAP subfolder, whereas the Inbox and Trash IMAP folders show up fine. I have the account set to store messages on the server, but it seems like it's just storing them locally.
I logged into webmail and found no issue with the sent folder - all the messages were there. I also see that technically Mail can see the Sent folder when I have it list the folders in the Get Info window, but I can't see it listed in the folder pane. I'm thinking that there has to be some message in the folder that's causing Mail to choke. I tried moving some of the older mail out but that didn't do the trick. Based on a suggestion I found on the web for what sounded like a very similar issue, I tried renaming the IMAP sent folder to INBOX.Sent so that it would be a subfolder of the Inbox, but that didn't help either. I guess if it bothers me enough I'll have to move to a different client, but I like Mail and would prefer to continue using it if possible. Any suggestions?
Update: I can double click the missing Sent folder in the Get Info window and have it open up all the messages in a separate window, but it doesn't appear with the folders in the primary viewer. What's the story here?
Update 2/Problem Resolution: When I realized that I could open the folder through the Get Info window, I went to Mailbox: Use This Mailbox For: and then I selected Sent, and happily the folder appeared as a subfolder as Sent. WOOT!
