It's easy to do in Safari through the interface.
In Firefox, it should be the same. But for a while now, whenever I decide to put a bookmark into the toolbar, it doesn't show up.
It ends up somewhere in a folder all the way to the end, I have to go to "edit bookmarks" and pull it across.
Very annoying.
It's like "toolbar is full" and every new bookmark is sent somewhere else.
Is this a bug? Usually the boomark should show up in the toolbar, and push one on the right end out of the toolbar.

I put bookmarks in my Bookmarks Toolbar all the time. Choose "Bookmark this page," then use the down arrow to select where it should go. The first item listed when I do that is the Bookmarks Toolbar.

Same here. Using OS 10.5.8 and Firefox 3.5.5
I looked for a firefox.plist file, but came up empty. Nothing under Mozilla either.

Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Yonkers can have better TV reception.

I use Command D, choose toolbar, and then the bookmark is not there.
Generally, placing a bookmark in the right folder is much quicker with Safari.
But I got used to using Firefox, so I have to fix this matter.

I've encountered this in FF as well. After cmd-d, use the folder drop-down triangle to navigate to the folder, instead of using the quick pick folder drop-down. That works for me on 3.6b4.

The navigation to the folder is OK.
But if I navigate to the toolbar and click "done", nothing is done, and the bookmark lands at the end of the bookmark list.
Sure it's a little bug, and it may get ironed out.

Do you highlight the folder? It can show, but unless you click on it, FF doesn't see any folder as selected.

Yes, I do. Otherwise, nothing would be selected.

Firefox 3.5.5 can no longer put bookmarks in the proper folders since I upgraded to Snow Leopard. (they land in the folder called "bookmarks menu")
I guess I'm going to get the beta of the next version, which may work with Snow Leopard. 3.5.5 doesn't.

Since going Snow Leopard: cannot bookmark at all.
Noticed, that I have 2 copies of the folder bookmarks menu. I used to be on the toolbar, where I don't need it (don't need this folder at all).
I'm currently on 3.6 beta 4 - no bookmarking.
