Hello - to put a lengthy story short:
Currently I'm running off an external 10.5.8 system disk (fw800) and instead of my regular 17" MBP (which is due to repair since it's a victim of this nvidia glitch) I attached my older 15" MBP to the disk tree.
Besides that it's slower and smaller it looks and feels like the 17" so I can continue working.
Except Time Machine:
Although I can see the backup data on the backup disk TM doesn't list any of the previous backups.
It also didn't see the disk as existing backup disk.
I could say "use for backup" but why isn't it set?
Note this is exactly the same system disk I booted both MBPs with!
Any clue what's going on and how to fix it?
I don't want to start over backing up 2TB of data.
Thanks a lot - Michael.

Time Machine uses the computer's MAC address to associate TM backups with particular Macs. Since your 15" MBP has a difference MAC address than your 17" MBP, TM believes they are different even though the actual boot drive is the same.

Here is a tip on fixing that: 10.5: Repair Time Machine after logic board changes - Mac OS X Hints

brilliant - thanks! So I'll have to do that again when I get my 17" back. But was easy to do.

That's good to know!
Meanwhile I noticed that software like Photoshop reclaims activation (which is a bit uncomfortable
since I'd have to do that again in a couple of days when the 17"'s back from repair)
and also had to re-pair Bluetooth devices.
I wonder what else will ask for attention ...
I'll find out I'd say ...
