Firstly, Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section. (Im new to all this, its my first ever post)

Right here goes..

I have just got a Powerbook G4 15" 1.5GHz, Memory 1GB DDR SDRAM with Mac OS X version 10.5.8 for Christmas! I dont know the first thing about these laptops but i will soon be going to college and will be undertaking a music course and it was brought to help me with that really (Garageband, Logic pro ect) but i also want to use it as my own personal laptop for surfing the net ect. Also i would like to use MSN (Im sorry if we cant use brand names) and would like to use my webcam but to use my webcam i have to install it by the cd which only runs on WinXP or Windows 2000. Also i would like to download pictures from my phone to the laptop using the USB cable but again that has to be installed using the CD. Is there anyway i could do these simple day to day things without spending any money.

If you could help i would be very pleased!

I've moved this to Applications since your issues and questions will ultimately involve various applications to get the functionality you want.

Your Powerbook isn't able to run any applications meant specifically for Windows.

Your best bet would be to either get a webcam meant specifically for a Mac, or see if your current webcam is support by software like Macam.

Also, some phones aren't initially compatible with OS X, but there are a few pieces of software that will help you out, Google's your friend here. Another option is Bluetooth, especially depending on your cell phone carrier. With Verizon, they often block transmission of pictures or other data via Bluetooth, but that varies from phone to phone.

Sam

Both the webcam and your phone could very well work without any driver installation. Have you tried just plugging them in?

Depends on the phone and webcam.

Older models indeed don't plug&play with Macs.

Get a new webcam, look at these links:

Re: your phone.

Did you try to goole "phone make and model Mac OS X driver" ?
