I followed some instructions to delete my inbox from the users/rob/library/mail folder, then for a while I could see a list of emails, but none of them were downloaded from the server. I tried to hit rebuild mailbox, but then everything vanished.

Now it's just totally empty.

Ideas?

Restore from your time machine backup and start again.
