does anyone know of any good video compressors where you can specify the final size of the file and have it work out the details? i have a bunch of avi's that i'm trying to compress to around 700 mb's so they can each fit on one disc. thanks in advance!

Handbrake.
And please don't post a link to some obscure paid software that you just discovered.

Works w/o a problem for me.

Maybe you need Perian installed, for the codecs.

Post the activity log from Handbrake when you try to feed it one of your AVIs. That will tell us what's in your source files so we can recommend something that will work.

HB doesn't use Quicktime or any external codecs, all media handling libraries are built in.
