I'm wondering if there is a PDF viewer out there that is better suited to reading PDF books? Something free of course. Something that will automatically scroll to exactly where I left off. Hate to say it but i kinda wish i had an iPad for this :-)

Can't you make a bookmark in those apps?

You can but it's a pain, and one time you forget and quit, and you've lost your place. You don't get a message when you quit "Do you want to save a bookmark before quitting?" I want something that will automatically save my place. Otherwise I could just as easily write down my page number, vs user a bookmark in preview. But too-fast command-q and it's gone.
