hi. is it possible to run a mac vm on a mac (e.g. thus making a single mac operate as if it were two macs)? i can't tell if parallels or vmware let you install another instance of os x on a mac already running os x. thanks.

Yes but the VM can only be Mac OS X Server 10.5 or above.

Right, Apple doesn't permit the client OS to be used in a VM. Both VMWare and Parallels have checks to make sure you're only using Server in the VM. If you're dead set on using client, then you can probably find hacks online.
