I use Google Talk, and have set it up in both Adium and iChat. As my friends have pointed out to me, when I'm logged into Gtalk in either iChat and Adium, and when my status is set as "Away," I appear "Idle" to those using Gtalk through the Gmail interface (but I do appear as "Away" in iChat and Adium to other users).
I have tried logging in and out of Gmail to see what happens. When I'm in Gmail, I appear as away, but the minute I either close the window or sign out, I appear idle again.
When I set the iChat or Adium status to "Available," I do appear as "available." Basically, all I can do is show up as Available or Idle.
Has anyone else noticed this problem, seemingly related to Gmail?
