Also, Trillian for Mac is in beta. Not bad, but not as good as Adium yet.
I like my water with hops, malt, hops, yeast, and hops.

Adium is probably the best instant messaging /chat client for Mac, although sometimes it gives issues when chatting to wiindowz-based msn contacts. Microsoft Messenger for Mac isn't as problematic in that respect, but has a variety of other bugs which can be very very annoying. (And yet I use microsofts app... :S)

As for download client, Speed Download is very good. But if you want a free alternative, give jDownloader a try (its available on Windows and Linux too). It's also much better when handling file host links (rapidshare, megaupload etc). I strongly recommend the app.

Nothing can increase your download speed. It can split your download into several threads to make maximum use of the available bandwidth, but once the bandwidth limit is hit, you can’t go any further.

All Mac apps make use of `maximum bandwidth' -- unless you explicitly tell them otherwise (some download clients allow you to limit the bandwidth they're allocated). In most cases, there is no `download acceleration.' There are quite a few ftp clients, e. g. Cyberduck (free) and Flow (costs $25, but seems worth it).
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
