I've tried a few apps to do a genuine save of videos online.
But some videos seems seem so ebmedded and hard to download, that I've given up.
I know where are some video screenshot apps, but they are always pricey and the videos tend to me quite large in size.

Any ideas? thanks!

Use the Activity viewer in Safari to see what resources are loading. Then double click on them to save them.

IMHO Snapz Pro is too expensive. Instead of updating my license from Mac OS 8.x heyday I bought Voila, Screenium and Videobox. So I have more than one app suited to the task and support several Mac developers.

hint: iCab (the web browser) lets you download videos straight from YouTube.

Sorry for the late response.

It is easy, Videobox way of working:

You launch the app, it asks you to drop the URL, which you do straight from your web browser address field to the Videobox window. The website favicon is an easy aim here.

The app firstly doesn't find any video, as it is required some interaction from the user. Back to your web browser, you hit play. Which launches Videobox built-in browser.

Once you hit the play icon inside Videobox browser, the app can 'see' the video and starts the download.

Afterwards it shows you the settings to, once the video is downloaded, convert it to a QuickTime / iTunes friendly format instead of annoying flash.

The download starts !!

which leads to Videobox converting the video…

and with Mac Pro power, it is a snap.

Now, you can safely open it with QuickTime Player.

Any doubt, feel free to ask, or pm me.

SORRY, i forgot to title this thread, "anything but Videobox"
I have had Videobox for years, it's really medeocre. If it worked well I would not have written.

That said, I must now bite my tounge! I just updated videobox and it worked well!
they must have really improved something recently becuase all I could get in past was the 2 second ads on the right hand panel when videos were embedded. And it downloaded as a .mov. Was this a .mov to begin with or a flash?

Thanks Angel -- but alas, I cannot get the 2nd video to work, when I drag the favicon again in gets rejected, wont take it (even if a video is playing)-- just worked once, now i'm out of luck -- again with videobox.

The Activity window is under the Window menu. Have it open before you load the videos. Once you load the video, you'll see some Flash resources loading. It will be obvious from their size which ones you'll need to double click on and save.

You may need to install Perian or use VLC for playback.

I stand corrected, it now plays with audio, in VLC and QT 10, but not QT 7. What helped the VCL or the Perian?
New issue/question.
I see I can resave it as a Quicktime Movie.
For sending to people what is best method and format to send people? by internet or by CD-R?

Might it be due to limitations of the trial mode?. Works fine here, downloading as we speak.

and it's done,

Angel, thanks, got PM.
No, I bought it, but it always has issues.
that said, I think I got this to work using the free way via Safari, Activity Window.

You can resave to a .mov QT, there was no sound, but I download a couple things to fix that.
