I've used about 10% of Photoshop since v.2 ... and often like to open an old window (#1) .. then make a new window to start a new image (#2) .. I often simply drag-n-drop a layer from #1 to #2 to use as an element for the new image.

How'zeva .. with this version, I open # 1 and then when #2 opens .. #1 closes?! Is there a good workaround to this Keystone Cop routine? Thanks.

Are you sure your aren't seeing tabs? I just checked my copy of CS5 (with tabs turned off) And I get individual windows for all new files. The default tabbed interface can be a little difficult initially because it acts stupid. Your first document looks like a normal window. Then, if you open another new document, PS adds a tab bar below the normal Mac window frame. It's easy to miss.

To turn off tabs, go to Preferences > Interface, and un-check "open documents as tabs"

TD: You Tab'd it for me! Perfect... I knew I didn't get the 'super duper' version, but thought they were gaming me to upgrade my upgrade by shorting the basics. I only use Pshp to make basic, image pages for my sites, so I never get too deep into it. Thanks for the help.

Like most folks who dont do photography design or prepress

I only use Pshp to make basic, image pages for my sites, so I never get too deep into it.

512: I have a 997; I drive it very infrequently and have never taken driving lessons. I am quite sure neither Porsche or Adobe is loosing sleep over my limited ambitions.
