Using OSX 10.4.11 on an Intel iMac. Downloaded iTunes and Safari updates last night. Safari wouldn't open, just kept telling me that the application quit unexpectedly. I removed Safari.app from the HD, then downloaded the latest version on Apple's website. Now it won't install because the installer says there is a newer version on my HD. I can't find any version on my HD to remove so my iMac is relegated to Firefox until I can fix this. Any ideas here?

If you download the package updater from the previous version of Safari from Apple's site, get Pacifist and extract Safari.app from that older version and put that into the Applications directory, that might work. I had a problem with Safari 4.1 crashing, and used the interface from version 4.0.5. It worked fine. I had no problem with 4.1.1, though.
