Ok folks. I'm in. Mac Time is here. Let me describe what I aim to do with my 2010 Mac Mini. I plan to use the Mac Mini as a music server. I want to draw the AIFF files from an external HD, and eventually an NAS. As I've began to crawl, I first downloaded MAX for FLAC to AIFF conversion. I had a problem telling MAX to convert the files and place them on the same external drive that they are located on. I finally get MAX to convert the files. The only catch was the only way MAX would do the conversion was by placing the newly converted file in the Mac Mini's subdirectory. Obviously this is no good, as I will soon run out of hd space. Two things I would like to do: 1) Have MAX convert the FLAC to Aiff and place it in the external HD it originated from and 2) Have iTunes play the music out of the external HD, thus freeing up the small HD on my Mac Mini.

Can someone help me with this small issue?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Not sure about this whole conversion thing, I never used MAX.

To change the location of your iTunes library, go in iTunes to Preferences - Advanced.
There you can chose a new iTunes Media folder location.

I have another question. I was looking around for Mac anti-spyware apps and I came across this statement in another forum: "Safe from what? There are no viruses or spyware that affect OS X. In fact, there aren't even any anti-spyware applications out there for OS X. There are a couple trojans disguised as Apple apps
on piracy sites like Pirate Bay, but you'd have to be pirating software to get them in the first place."

Is this TRUE????

Yes, there are no viruses for OS X at this point. As you've noted, there are a few Trojans that disguise as a cracked copy of, say, Photoshop CS5: once you launch it, it has access to at least your user files and wreak havoc.

You can transmit viruses that disguise themselves as e-mail attachments to Windows computers, though. To prevent that, you can download ClamXAV, for instance, which is free.

As turtle said, you can put your iTunes library anywhere where your user has write access to. Also, it's important that you let iTunes manage the files so make sure that option is checked.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
