My designer sent me a large 300 dpi file.
I reduced it to 72 for the web.
only thing is: it's a bit small. I want it a tad larger.
Does the ol 72 dpi for the web still hold?
Should I have her redo it?
if I have it 150 or 100 dpi, it would probably be the size I want. thanks!

I would say that the pixel density is completely unimportant. Let's assume the smallest realistic screen size any more is 1024 x 768. How many pixels wide do you want the picture to be? Six hundred would be more than half the screen width. Eight hundred would be bigger. Think pixels, not pixels per inch.

Honestly, the whole screen size res thing goes over my head.
But IN short, if I make the image 100 or 150 dpi, it should be fine on most laptops today?

Chabig's post went completely over your head.
Forget about dpi, it doesn't matter. Think about pixels. Just make the pic big / small enough that someone with a 17" screen (i.e. 1024 x 768) could still view it properly.

The other factor is file size. The end file size should be as small as possible while getting an image that's big enough for your visual purposes.
