The problem is basically discussed here:
Can't upload in Cyberduck 3.6.1 - macosx.com
help/en/howto/ftp – Cyberduck - under "Error opening data socket"
I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do.
I cleared out all my Cyberduck/FTP data, and am now unable to upload files to my site as I usually could.
I get this error message in Passive mode:
"I won't open a connection to 192.168.1.24 (only to [my IP])"
and this error in Active mode:
"Connection refused"
I can navigate files and folders fine, but Cyberduck says "How dare you try to upload something like a php file or a JPG thumbnail, I won't do it!"
This worked fine before I cleared out my HD.
I'm using FTP-SSL. If I switch to regular FTP, then my password doesn't work.
I don't think that I'm using a Firewall, and I haven't changed any of my modem settings (I've always been using a wireless DSL modem).
ALSO: I've tried connecting from an entirely different wireless network (around campus), and I still cannot upload files, although the error messages are a little different "Could not open a connection to port...".
What's going on? Is this a problem with my host's server, my computer, my modem, or something else?

Is that actually your site server's IP? A 192.168... IP is private. My installation of Cyberduck has my site's FTP URL specified as the connection endpoint, not a local IP. Maybe you should try configuring those connections again.

I am so confused right now. I have no idea what my site's IP server is. How do I configure those connections? Which of the fields in the site's bookmarks do I need to change for my site?

Contact the service that hosts your site and ask for their FTP settings for your site/account. Mine is pretty straightforward, with my account number as part of the login process. Ask your service, and they'll almost certainly walk you through the setup step by step.
And write down everything so if you have a problem you won't have to ask them to help you again. That's saved me hours of frustration.

Update:
Transmit SOMETIMES works. About 50% of the time the files transfer. Other times, I get "Connection refused."
Cyberduck doesn't - it tells me that it refuses to open a connection to 192.168.1.24.
So, Cyberduck is misbehaving. I'm using the latest version of Cyberduck.
I plan on contacting the Cyberduck developer if we can't get this resolved.
UPDATE: Problem solved. I have to brute-force Cyberduck to use regular FTP without any kind of SSL options (it keeps insisting that I switch to SSL, which doesn't work for me). Transmit also seems to work all the time now.
