Hi

Just bought a Sony Handycam (DCR-SX43) and the MPEG files wont work. Have updated QuickTime, Relaplayer and have bought the install for Quicktime MPEG2. The only way I can make it play is by playing through MPEG StreamClip but the quality is terrible (lots of lines).

Have I done something wrong with the QuickTime MPEG2 install?

I'm running a MacBook on OSX 10.5.8

Help

Thanks

Ed

Can you post a small sample clip from the camera? So we could analyze the file.

YouTube would re-encode the file. We need your file as it comes from the camera. So you need webspace or a file hosting service somewhere. .Mac would do, as would Google Sites or rapidshare. Any place where you have upload privs to a directory that is online.

It captures MPEG2-PS. I would expect the QuickTime MPEG2 codec would handle it fine.

Just import it as an archive from iMovie, that's what I've been forced to do when my (pesky) relatives with (pesky) Sony cams tell me to edit their (pesky) footage.

I imported some HD video from my brother's Canon camera. All I know is 32gb of footage turned into >150Gb!! So be careful.

Perian - The swiss-army knife of QuickTime® components

Install this and then see if you can open it in QuickTime.
