If you got it on DVD: HandBrake
If it's just video on a CD, you should be able to just drag and drop the files onto your hard drive and do whatever you want with them.

I downloaded handbrake and I guess I can't figure it out... I know the video is on a dvd cause it displays that on the disk when it shows up on my desktop.

But when I open handbrake, the options that it gives me to "open" look very different than a simple dvd...

source>DVD video> then I have to choose between VIDEO_RM AND VIDEO_TS, and then both options just open up more options!! grrr...

This tutorial will walk you thru step-by-step:

HOW TO: Rip DVD's for Your iPod, Apple TV or iPhone using Handbrake [tutorial]

And while it says it's for iPod/AppleTV/iPhone, the resulting file should be uploadable to most video sharing sites.

Click on the VIDEO_TS folder and then choose open. Don't dive into the folder.

That tutorial is OK for how to use the program, but pretty awful in terms of encoding settings (900kbps ABR LOL).
