Can't definitively find out if this will work or not. I'm putting a large library of music and video onto a mac mini server. The idea is to use this as the main library for a Sonos home system but I'd like to integrate several other macs into this.
Now while all the Macs will be able to access the library via home sharing it won't be possible to create local playliste or sync iPods/Pads from the shared library.
However is it possible to use the main music folder as the library for several copies of iTunes on different Macs. In theory as long as the option to manage media is unchecked on each Mac then each copy of iTunes will create it's own library files locally but reference the original tracks.
The music is 95% ripped from CD so there aren't any drm issues but on the few tracks that are iTunes drmed it "should" just be a matter of authorising each Mac to play the tracks up to the maximum of 5.
Is this going to work?
