Is there something for Tiger that can do "live" full backups. Like time machine, which can backup your whole system, while your system is running. (and is free). I have a project running on this old iBook. I want to back it up, ideally incrementally like time machine but I'll settle for manual full backups. But I can't reboot, I need to keep it running, and keep it's software running. This way if it's very old hard drive fails, I can just restore form a backup and jump right back into the project.

Are you afraid of the command line?

Why?
I know rdiff-backup which is a backup frontend for rsync. I've used it successfully on FreeBSD and it's available via the MacPorts collection.

It looks like that's only backing up the user accounts, and not the whole drive. I'm going to run it and see what it actually ends up doing.

You have an external HD, you'll need to clone the old HD to it. Use free CarbonCopyCloner @ Carbon Copy Cloner - Home You do not have to reboot. CCC has the option of incremental backup of selected item once to have a replica of the old on the new HD. I've used CCC for as long as it's been around with never a problem.

I use CCC all the time. I didn't know it could do 'live' full backups though, I thought i'd have to boot off a 3rd drive to image a boot drive to something else. That silverbackup program seemed kinda of sketchy, maybe i'll do another backup with CCC. Later on though, since it takes about 24 to do a backup over B speed wireless :/
