I want to load an iMove project into Final Cut Express. When I select the Share button and choose "Export Final Cut XML . . . it saves the project as a "text" file. Can somebody tell me what's going wrong here?

Not familiar with FCP, but if you save to an XML file, it will be text. Is there any other option to export to FCP?

No that's the only option that Final Cut Express can accept from iMovie. This one really has me stumped. I've been everywhere, Google, and every forum I can think of. I've spent the entire day trying to figure this one out. Nothing! If it won't work, I've just wasted $200!

According to apple support, in iMovie you simply Export to Final Cut XML, and then in Final Cut Express choose Import > FCP XML from iMovie.

I don't think it actually moves any of the media, the XML file is just a reference to the project in the Movies folder, which is why it's "text".

I followed that to a tee. And here's what I got;

It clearly states that it is a Text document, and it treats it as such. When I go to FCE to check my import. There's nothing.

I can't test this until Monday, which I will do if nobody else helps you this weekend.

Thanks very much I do appreciate it. It just absolutely has me baffled. I tried everything, looked everywhere. It just does not make any sense.

XML format is just text. You can open it in Textedit and see it for yourself.

Yes I am aware of that. My problem is that I'm directed to to save an iMovie file as a .xml file, and then to open it in Final Cut Express. This I cannot do. That's all. It seems that it works for everyone else. I just would like to know what I'm doing wrong.

Thank you . . .

I could not get this to work.

iMovie 9.0 (from iLife 11) and FCE 4.
