My co-worker found this article:

PowerPoint 2007 custom colors

It explains how to add custom colors to the color picker in PPT 2007 by editing the XML of a Powerpoint theme (.thmx). I tried the .thmx he created with Powerpoint 2008 on my Mac, but it didn't do anything. Not a big surprise.

Right now the only way to get custom colors that you reuse often is to go to "More colors" in the color picker and save the colors to the palette there. Any way to get this front and center without having to go to "More colors" (which for some stupid reason is not a modeless dialog box)?

Is this possible in Office 2011 (which I don't have...yet)?

Thanks,
Steve

Yes. On first use of a custom color, PowerPoint opens the system wide color picker, but once you use the color it is added to a "Recent Colors" that appears:

No, I'm not talking about "recent colors". 2008 does that, too. What I'm talking about are commonly used colors that are available all the time (recent colors eventually go away) that are not tied to theme elements (like the theme colors themselves are). In 2008, More colors takes you to a palette that has this (but the dialog it's in is not modeless, as I mentioned). In 2007, this palette does not even exist in a modeless dialog, so the XML hack I linked to creates a Custom colors palette.

I'm wondering if there is a way to do this on the Mac side or if there is a feature in 2011 that has a modeless permanent palette of custom colors.
