Are there any good Handbrake alternatives? I'm ripping a bunch of fully legal, non encrypted dvd disk images. Every new version of Handbrake becomes more and more buggy. This newest version is so crashey, I can't even load up my queue. I have a TON of files to rip, It will take me forever to load them one at a time, load, rip, load rip etc. Even if Handbrake wasn't crashy, it still has a really poor interface and is particularly bad at loading a ton of files into a queue. It makes you go through several screens of settings for every item, before adding it. Are there any other solutions or am I S.O.L.?

Methinks you're SOL.

I had the Handbrake crash issue before, I downgraded one version and it was ok again.

Are you on an Intel Mac ?

Yes I'm on a Mac Pro. Its stable enough if you're trying to load one video. But if you're trying to load a ton of them, it's just not stable enough to make it through that process without crashing. And the interface is so clumsy, its just a nightmare even if it doesn't crash.

Just the other day I downloaded the latest version of Handbrake and VLC and ripped a few DVDs. No crashes. Actually, I can't remember Handbrake ever crashing on me. Is this a common complaint?

The general buggyness has been an ongoing problem for years. Crashing has been less of a problem. The new version of Handbrake just came out today. I guess I'll see if I can find an old version to downgrade too and at least i can have a bit of stability

The GUIs are shitty. For single and batch encoding I use the CLI. Trivial to script batch encoding in your programming language of choice.

I can crash Handbrake at will but it's easily avoided. I'd recommend iSkySoft's Media Converter but mduell would rip me a new one (as he did in a previous thread...I think it was him). Works great but I think they stole code from a GPL or something without citing them.

While I'm not a fan of iSkySoft's iMedia Converter, I don't know anything about them violating the GPL nor do I believe I ripped you a new one over the issue.

Please substantiate your statement.

Looks like the ffmpeg developers have an issue with iSkySoft.

In this thread I mentioned iSkySoft then you commented then Spheric Harlot slammed iSkySoft...my bad, but you could be considered guilty due to proximity of posting

Wow, they're pretty shitty, copyright infringement in a commercial product.

I thought iSkySoft Media Converter sounded familiar, and was wondering if I'd seen them in a bunch of spam posts on MacNN. Spheric's comment in the linked thread seems to confirm that suspicion. Between spam and the license infringement, I wouldn't touch them with a twenty-foot pole.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

I got it as part of a good bundle. I wish they'd work out their issues as their program does a great job, has a simple UI, and is multithreaded...basically it's a dumb-downed version of HB that does batch conversions. The parent company is definately shadey but if you can get it cheap I'd go for it.
