Version 5.0 (5533.16)
now uses Bing or Bling for its searches
no one asked me
can I got back to Google?

You probably changed it accidentally in the menu under the magnifying glass of the search field.

There are also some "apps" spread over Facebook that do that - and add their own affiliate code, of course. Haven't seen reports of them targeting Safari, but they do target FF and Chrome anyway, so it's not the regular IE-focused malware.

Random apps can change code on MY machine without requiring any action on my part? I always wondered how these "Click here to make XYZ your default page!" links worked.. looks like a security flaw to me!

They ask you to install a browser plugin to make their page work. Said plugin can then do what they want. It's basically a trojan, except some lawyer will argue that the user gave permission when clicking Accept in that dialog box.
