So my mother's macbook pro gets this message every time she opens skype. Note the date on there. She uses it all the time to talk to family around the world. And every time, it shows her this message. Who knows how to fix this?

Nope. Properly installed in the Applications folder.

I bet it's still in Login Items off the .dmg. The only way you're getting this repeatedly is off the disk image.

If she's not an admin user, she will always get it. Only admin users can clear that message.

I just tested this with a non admin account and the message went away.

How would you install something in the /Applications folder as non-admin?

By authenticating as an admin. That's separate from the message in the OP.

This is a normal message that OSX puts up for any app you have downloaded and installed. It will appear every time a user launches the app until an Admin clicks on the "Open" button.

I was on a non-admin account.
I downloaded skype.
I copied it to the Applications folder and authenticated as an admin.
I opened skype on the non-admin account.
I saw the OP message and clicked open.
I quit skype and launched it again.
No message.

To clarify...
The message can only be cleared by the owner of the app, whether they are an admin or non-admin.

Ahhh.. So if the admin installs skype and doesn't run it, the non-admin will see the message forever?

Yes, that goes for any user too. If another user downloads an app and never runs it, then all other users will get that message always. So, even a non-admin user can screw over an admin user. However, an admin user can replace the app or do some Terminal trickery to clear it.

That's a pretty stupid way for that system to work. But yes I did delete the app, and re-"instal" it under her account (which is an admin) and I had to dismiss the warnings twice, and now it seems to be staying away.
