i have a g4 mac mini with 10.4 running itunes 5. i would like to upgrade to a later version of itunes that will incorporate gapless importing. the latest version of itunes requires 10.5. they offer an earlier version (8.2.1) that's designed to work with g3's. question. will that work with my g4? also when did apple go to gapless importing? thanks.

Latest version that you can use is 9.2.1. Lossless was added in 4.5, so you should have it already.
The low-end Mac Pro is the most overpriced Mac since the IIvx

Why not get the latest version? That said, every one I've had did what you want just fine. BTW you did say 'gapless'.

i edited the word lossless out of my original post. trust me, it used to be there. nothing against the latest version, just wondering why everyone thinks it's so bloated. then again, until i wanted this gapless feature i was perfectly happy with itunes 5. i've never been the one who has to have the latest or the greatest. just want something that works well.

You may have a point with 'bloat', maybe 9 will be too slow on a g4 machine on 10.4. How about trying versions 7, 8 and 9 and just see which one works best with your configuration.

I'm not sure how he'd install an .exe on the G4 - if he's looking to avoid bloat and sluggishness, Virtual PC certainly isn't the way to do it!
