Hello good people of MacNN,

I'm looking for a very simple app to keep track of my finances in various accounts via a simple check ledger sort of interface. Something like the Ledger iPhone app would be perfect interface-wise, although I'd also like something which I can do an automatic backup with and is in a format I can access should I want to export this financial information to some other app at some point in the future, in particular because there is no Desktop counterpart for this app. Preferably there would be both a desktop and iPhone version, and preferably cheap (although not necessarily so).

As I understand it, there is no standard for this sort of data format. The author of Ledger says that Ledger uses an SQLite database, which I suppose I could work with, but I'm still in information seeking mode and would like to hear about other options out there.

One other option I've been entertaining is iBank. It works well, but it does more than I need. I may end up paying for it anyway, but again, if you have any other recommendations and options I should look at, please send them my way!

Thanks in advance...

Your friend,
besson3c

I don't know the app, and the website is effing useless (no answers).

How exactly do you feed the ledger ?
Do you have to manually add all transactions ?

I would never do that. Too much work.
I'd rather have a desktop app like Quicken that can automatically download my transactions, and I use VNC and the like to access it on the go. There is normally no need for me to have up-to-the-minute information on all my accounts.

I might be cool with having it download my transactions, but I'm not sure my credit union supports that, I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with the security ramifications to that while using a mobile app in particular, and I definitely don't want to use VNC.

What I'm looking for is essentially the equivalent of an old fashioned checkbook ledger, manually entered.
