Address book doesn't want to open at all, any suggestions? I've looked through the forums and can't see anything related. I've also checked the sharing preferences and i have read/write access so I'm not sure what the problem is. I have the icon on my dock but nothing happens when I click on it?

No, I've tried launching it from various places but still no joy. In the permissions areas, I have Read & Write access as does 'system' while 'everyone' has read only.

I looked at the permissions for the Address book in all of the accounts on our family iMac and, interestingly, this is what they all show:
System: Read/Write
Wheel: Read Only
Everyone: Read Only

None of the accounts have a permissions setting for the specific individual. Odd.

Do other user accounts on your Mac have this problem?

I added myself after several unsuccessful attempts to open it. I also deleted 'administrators' I think. I've since deleted my personal setting and there aren't any other user accounts. There's no option to add 'wheel' again but i can add administrators?

Have you repaired permissions lately, using Disc Utility?

Still no success, during the repair process it highlighted some issues with the address book which is 'fixed' but I've rebooted and still can't access address book. Completely stumped.

try setting up a test user account, see if address book opens there. or look for Pacifist (for mac), which will let you re-install the Address Book app from the apple dvd (it won't touch your addresses, etc) (then run system update, to bring that app and everything up to date)...

Are you backed up with Mobile Me or any other storage? I would try deleting it hardcore with an app like AppZapper or something similar. They usually find .plist files and other goodies that are left behind when you normally delete an app.

Once uninstalled, I believe there is a copy you can install from your OSX installation disc. I would try a fresh install of the app. Other than that I would be clueless if you've already done "Repair Disc Permissions."

Usually I like to keep the habit of doing an "Erase-and-Install," once-twice a year. Keeps everything running really smooth and quick. Obviously when you get into mod-ing and playing with some GUI elements it becomes harder to do so as often. But a rule of thumb, once a year tends to keep some issues like this away.

Good luck, hope this was a all helpful!

/** Please if you, or someone could verify that addressbook.app is on the OSX install disc! I DO NOT recommend deleting before knowing there is an available copy to restore from **/

^^ verified by @fisherking, thanks!
