Hi to all, please do forgive for idiotic mistake as I am quite new to Mac's and if I've posted this in the wrong area.

I am trying to install a open source software called "3D Slicer" but i just can't get it to work and I think I'm in over my head. I'll try my best to explain and provide all the information i can and I am really hoping a kind samaritan will be able to help....

The link to the download page "http://www.slicer.org/pages/Special:SlicerDownloads"

I have down load the latest stable version "Mac OSX-Darwin x86 Intel 3.6.3-2011-03-04"

Oh btw I have a Macbook Pro running MAX OS X version 10.6.7

Once i've extracted the folder, I try to run the file "Slicer 3" and this is the message i get in Terminal and i have no idea what it really means....

I've moved this to applications.

I've never used this software, but from the page you linked, it mentions: "X11 for Mac: On Mac OS X you will need to install X11 from the CD. As an alternative, we had good experience with xquartz." Do you have X11 or xquartz installed?

andi*pandi is correct. You must first install X11 before you can run this software. X11 is found on the install DVD for your Mac. Alternately, you can download XQuartz here.

The latest XQuartz provided via the link above actually works much better than the ones included with the Leopard/Snow Leopard DVDs, so I'd definitely recommend this build. For one, they support rootless windows which helps with full screen view.

I just downloaded and tested running the same build you downloaded in my X11/XQuartz environment. Works perfectly... just cd into the directory and enter
Code:
./Slicer3
. You can enter
Code:
./Slicer3 &
if you don't want to have to keep the terminal window open to keep Slicer alive.
