Whist browsing, but having Excel open, this icon appeared on my desktop.
Purporting to be an Excel spreadsheet, but without .xlsx suffix, but one in the icon, I tried to trash it, couldn't, tried to move it, it went back to where it was, tried info, no joy, even tried (I know !) to open it in TextEdit then Excel, didn't want to know, so I screen grabbed it...

It was on the RHS of centre, about two thirds down.

Thankfully, after reboot, it has disappeared.
Never had anything like it before
Ideas ?

Autosave file? (guess)
Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.
That's where there's thunder... and the wind shouts back.

If get info isn't doing enough for you, try FileUtilsCM. It's a contextual menu item that provides file info and several controls.

Have you tried quitting Excel and then trashing it? Have you tried rebooting?

I'd guess it's a temporary document for autosave.

It is autosave ! Thanks for the suggestion.
Didn't disappear as usual, must have hung.
Here's another one I used ScreenCap for, having reset autosave for 1 minute.
