ive been paying more attention to my iPad Touch v1

facetime on the more advanced Pods and Pads is interesting

aapl's video demo has no sound. im guessing the newer pods and pads do not have speakers nor mic's

so you would need headphones and a mic for this to really work "as advertized"

not at all. sorry for the misunderstanding.

facetime just sends 'face' and no audio? so the pods and pads with just Wi-Fi do not act and a wifi phone?

Apple's marketing led you to believe that? You thought we were supposed to train as lip readers with the absence of headphones?

Sorry for the gentle mocking but I don't know how you came to that conclusion.

No, facetime with no external sound would be crazy. The iPod touch has had an external speaker since its 2G model debuted in 2008, and the iPad of course has had one since day one. Have you seen either of the products in real life?

They have built-in mics. What were you thinking ?

That Apple would advertise Facetime for both product, but you can't transmit anything you say ?

not really in the vid they have there is a little icon on the lower L that is a mic with a slash through it.

does the built in mic resend the audio from the speaker? Loop-like?

rotus, I was one of the earlier adopters of the original iPad (within the first couple of months) and took it with me internationally. I used Skype in Israel to call home before I got my cell service working, and it worked great on both sides. You should try it for yourself.

It's muted.

No, Apple has some very good feedback elimination, not sure if it's software or hardware.
