Does someone know of a free mp4 transcoder for Mac? My camera has mp4 output and I would like to transcode these clips into avi or mov to be able to see them with any decent player.

Any decent player can play mp4 movies.

You can use HandBrake to convert to h.264/mp4.

Not sure why you would like to transcode mp4? What is the model of your camera?

I think the .mp4 videos could play on Mac without any problem. And most of players support .mp4.

If you need a free alternative, streamclip may help you too.

mp4 is pretty universal but I understand the need to convert to avi for compatibility with certain devices (e.g. my Samsung DLNA TV doesn't like much else) but mov is definately NOT universal. Handbrake is great but doesn't do avi anymore, there are plenty of other free and paid alternatives out there (check MacUpdate: Download Apple Mac Software & iPhone Software).
