my thunderbird mail app automatically updated to 10.0

now on opening the app it asks to connect to

ocsp.digicert.com which seems to be a west-datacenter.net


it never did this before, and the mail has arrived with out this conneciton

is this safe? what is it? tracking something?

If you are using Little Snitch, it is using Thunderbird.app now to make its rules rather than Thunderbird.bin. This seems to require more rules.

Thunderbird for me seems to need to connect to various verisign sites to check security certificates. One of these is evsecure-ocsp.verisign.com. Sounds similar in purpose to ocsp.digicert.com, so that is probably doing the same thing: checking security certificates. If so, it is nothing to worry about.
