So this is one I've never seen before:

Mail is taking it upon itself to mark messages as read. Its not happening because the messages are being vie a message thats second from top and then a few more come in, you can sometimes see the blue dots blink out without any user input at all. The new messages is never selected or viewed.

This is three brand new iMacs with IMAP accounts on Apple Mail.

Googling for similar problems just gets people moaning that messages are marked as read when you click on them.

Any ideas?

I don't quite understand this sentence:

But do you have any rules set up that may be marking messages as read for some reason?

Well spotted, it should read:

My MBP is stuttering.

There are no rules set up at all except the default Apple rule(s).

Did you ever get an answer to this? I am missing emails because they are marked as "read" before I've even seen them - and then miss them.
