I foolishly installed DivX 8 on my mac 10.5.x and it changed all the QT icons that played .mkv to the divx icon and opened them in Dvix

I selected one vid and had the finder open that and all divx with QT as before. the icons are all now generic (.mkv) and QT opens them very very slowly.

how can I fix this>

thanks!

How come they are still listing DivX7 at their site.? I am a registered used of v.7 and have never heard of version 8.

As for uninstalling it, I guess you should do it manually as there was no uninstaller provided back in the day. There should be a DivX preference pane inside your System Preferences, I can't recall if there was any uninstaller on it, though.

The installer for version 7 places these items in your Mac, you might want to look into it, maybe DivX8 does install just updated versions of pretty much the same components.

Applications:
  • DivX Folder
  • DivX Converter app
  • DivX Player app

Library:
  • Application Support > DivX folder
  • Frameworks > DivX Toolkit.framework
  • Internet Plug-Ins > DivXBrowserPlugin & npdivx.xpt
  • PreferencePanes > DivX.prefPane
  • QuickTime > DivX Decoder.component & DivX Encoder.component
  • Scripts: DivX folder

Disclaimer, as weird as it might sound, I actually liked DivX 7.

Good luck !!

Wait there, I just double checked it and both versions (7 and 8) do include an uninstaller.

Applications > DivX folder > Uninstall DivX for Mac

Can you see it.?

Also, for version 8 there is an additional component being installed on your Mac:

Library > Internet Plug-Ins > OVSHelper.plugin

Anything else I had listed for version 7 still applies.

In case you don't have the uninstaller anymore, get it here:

it says i have all the pro uses.

but EyeTV which worked fine with 7 pro when I installed it years ago now the divx exported wont work and Eye says I have 6.4 installed and thats unsupported by Eye

Ill start an EyeTV thread re divx 7 component email ElGato and got the first replay and sent them more info
