itunes HD content. 1080p not fully 1080p resolution

I had a 720p version of a movie. I recently discovered that itunes would upgrade to the 1080p version of the movie just by downloading again. So I downloaded the 1080p version. During the download I saw that the file size was much larger than the 720p so everything appeared to be working fine.
When the download finished, I checked the resolution of the 1080p movie. The resolution of the 1080p version is (1912 x 792). How is this full HD? Full hd 1080p is 1920 x 1080. So the 1080p version that I have is just slightly better than 720p.
Has anyone else experienced this? Shouldn't 1080p movies truly be 1080p?

1920x1080 is the maximum resolution of 1080p HD but most video content will be slightly short of that. 1912 is only 8 pixels, I'd call that negligible. 792 is obviously a bit shorter of the mark but its basically just a different aspect ratio.

I watch a lot of content on my HTPC and 720P or 1080P is almost never a full 720 or 1080 lines of resolution. I think rather than worrying about specs you should see if the video looks and sounds good. I usually opt for 720P since I can rarely tell the difference on my 52-inch 7-series Samsung TV. Maybe if you have a bigger TV you can tell but 720P looks great.

That's normal, 2.4:1 AR movies are 1920x800 on BluRay (matted to 1920x1080 for spec compliance).

Also your "720p" copy was probably 1280x534.

Probably, but if it passed the "does it look good" test it was "HD-enough" for me.
