Hi,
I recently got the latest MBP 15", which came with the latest version of iMovie. Before I worked with a previous version of iMovie where I could select the resolution (original) of the imported clips and after editing I could generate the resulting movie in the same resolution. This workflow was important for me because I still use a digital Canon camera that records movies in 640x480. In the latest version of iMovie my imported 640x480 clips appear correct, but when I create a movie project the resolution of the movie seems to default to 720 HD, which can't be changed, so I get black bars on both sides of my clips. When I save such movie to a file the lowest resolution I can select is SD 850x480 and the movie is saved with those black bars on both sides of the video. Is there any way movies can be edited in the original (640x480) resolution in the latest iMovie?

Handbreak won't work, because I want to put together all the clips + some editing and then generate one movie. Unless you meant to run this generated movie (with black bars on both sides) through Handbreak, but I'm not aware that Handbreak has an option to "chop off" those black bars (effectively changing the resolution of the movie) without changing its aspect ratio/resizing.
