If anyone at MacWorld reads this, please stop by the Microsoft booth and ask them where are the drives for the IntelliMouse Optical for OS X?

How come Microsoft can get Office with millions of lines of code for OS X faster then the drivers for their IntelliMouse Optical?

1. Andrew Montalcini is working on a OS X version of USB Overdrive.

2. MS is licencing USB Overdrive for their drivers (at least I think so)

3. Apple has changed many things in the IOKit the last year, and documentation has been scetchy. (From what I've heard.)

Check out www.usboverdrive.com if you want.

MacMinute says...

Drivers for Microsoft input devices coming soon
January 10 - 20:50 ET: Microsoft intends to have Mac OS X drivers for its line of USB mice and trackballs available by the end of February, with drivers for its line of keyboards due in March or April, MacMinute has learned. Alessandro Levi Montalcini, who wrote the Mac OS 8/9 drivers as well as the popular USB Overdrive software, is also developing the Mac OS X software.

I hear if you stop by the MS Booth at MacWorld you can play with a demo of the OS X drivers that are installed on the machines there. Say hi to James Jen if you do.

This is a joke right?

For all we know, the guy is dead. He hasn't updated his webpage in months. In addition, he never replies to e-mail.

Don't wait around for USB Overdrive for OS X. It gets the official "Mac Vaporware of the Year" award. Instead, go buy a cheap Kensington Optical Pro mouse for $30.

you know, everyone here seems to like the Kensington Optical Pro, and I've been looking around for a new mouse because my intellimouse and my kensington optical non-pro are both flaking out, and in the stores all I ever see is MS and Logitech. I've been specifically looking for this Kensington thing for about a month, and it's just not to be found (in the real world. I don't feel like buying it online)
blackmail is such an ugly word. I prefer extortion. the X makes it sound cool

The OS X Intellipoint Drivers will be out in February according to an MS representative I talked to. He was also giving a short demo of the software to people who requested it.

Featurewise, how do the X drivers compare to the Classic ones?

Same story here. Kensington are the biggest OS X supporters, they had drivers out with the PUBLIC BETA. There is simply no excuse for anyone else not to - "the IOKit keeps changing" is bunk. Developers get seed builds. If kensington could do it, ms and logitech could have.

Anyway, I'll probably pick one up online eventually.

I saw some kensingtons at Frys, but i want the optical pro, and they don't have that model.
