Occasionally, I will take a screenshot using the command-shift-4
shortcut.
This screen shot is a TIFF format picture, right?
Anyhow, I wanted to upload onto imagestation.com so I could post the picture on a forum board. It gave me an error of course and I remember I have to convert the screenshot to a jpeg.
I tried doing a save as in Photoshop and using graphic converter.
Both files gave me errors on imagestation as being "invalid file format" even those the files are supposed to be jpegs now.
What am I doing wrong?

No, thhe default screenshot will be a .pict format. You should convert it to gif or jpg and then up-load it.

As Mike said, use the GIF format. Use the 'save for web' function in photoshop. If the screen shot isn't photographic in content, try setting 16 or 32 colours to reduce size and make sure to crop out the areas you dont need first

To confuse the matters. In system 9 and less the file format was PICT.
Now in 10 and 10.1 its TIF.
And with 10.2 its default format is PDF!
They should settle on one format, or allow for a system preference to choose.

Thanks. I haven't had a chance to upload it but my friend mentioned the same thing.
What's the difference of saving the file as a .gif format using "save as" as opposed to "save for web?"
That default pdf setting is retarded....I don't suppose there's anyway to set a default ".gif" setting is there?!

More Control over colours used and potential for smaller files
Save for Web, 28k
Save As, 44k
I ended up using about 130 colours or something because of the little graduated buttons and macnn icons. OS9 windows could be crunched more than OSX due to their more monochrome appearence
