As a better alternative to iPhoto's printing interface,
I've been trying to use Photoshop's Picture Package feature
which allows you to print different pictures onto the same
8-1/2 x 11 sheet of photo paper (It's under file->automate->picture package, or something close to that off the top of my head).
My question:
What minimimum DPI setting do I need to set the photos at in Photoshop? When you bring up the dialogue box for picture package, Photoshop sets it at 72 DPI by default.
Also, after you set the DPI setting in Photoshop, when you actually go to print, what DPI setting needs to be set in the "print settings" dialogue box? You can pick 360, 720, 1440, and 2880.
I think next to the 720, there's "photo quality" written next to it.
But then...there's still a checkbox for "finest detail" that you can check off...
By alot of trial and error yesterday, I found that 720 dpi in photoshop, matched with 720 dpi setting in printer options, gets
me very sharp photo-quality prints. I'm just wondering if this is overkill and if the actual settings are lower...like for example,
the photoshop package setting could be 300 dpi, and the printer setting at 360 dpi. I read a little photoshop stuff before and I was under the impression that I only needed 300 dpi (for like magazine photo quality).
