How does one go about making these icons? You know, the Earth mapped ones. 3D app, Photoshop, ? I thought maybe you could use Spherize in PS to get the globe effect on the Earth, but is there a better way? And where can I find a nice, preferably vector, image of the Earth for this purpose.

You could find a pic of earth then use Pen Tools in Photoshop to make a vector image.

Spherize is nice but it is not 100% true ball. It's more of "bump"

To acclompish "ball like", I hand-made it with paint brush, etc.
