Congrats. As rough as the market is now if you really look there is stuff out there. I just landed a job this past October after like 5 months being unemployed. The thing was during most of those 5 months I wasn't really looking either. As rough as it was living off the unemployment and trying to make ends meet on less than half of what I was making before, I also needed a break.
It's actually been easier for me to get work now than it was prior to deciding that a career in Graphics was for me. I did all kinds of manual labor/blue collar/High School Diploma only required, related stuff for like 10 yrs after High School because I never took my abilities as an artist seriously, nor did I think anyone could actually make a living doing it (which was stupid since my father also was a Graphic Artist).
I suppose the region I live-in also has something to do with it (NYC/North Eastern NJ area). Lots of opportunities in print design and so forth around here.
Anyway, sorry for going off on a tangent there, but it's always nice to hear that a fellow artist is doing well.
Best of luck with it.
MikeM

Congrats too What's your specific job in Photoshop? Designing all ads, logo, etc or it's different than that?
MikeM, have you ever thought about freelancing? That's what we're doing and we're making a lot of money from it (icons, logo, websites, print, etc)

It's simple really. The ads and slide shows (trivia and whatnot) before the previews at the movie theaters. Our office is resposible for all ads in the US. I'll be one of four artists. It's Moderate to advanced PhotoShop skill, all in RGB at 100 dpi. It will be nice, coming from the printing industry, to not have to worry about color accuracy and all that. Plus I will no longer have to "polish other peoples turds" (fix crappy art) for a living. And I'll have plenty of time to resume my freelance career.
The office is located right across from The Village Gate.

It's something I'd love to do, my problem is I can't drive (long story, don't want to get into the details). So that might hinder me in some way. I suppose I could do it if I didn't have to go out and meet clients/potential clients, or if they wanted to come to my place with work. The other problem with that is my apartment isn't exactly a great place to have people over (it's a dump).
I think I'd want to do a little freelancing on the side from my regular job. At least in the beginning and if business gets that good then.....who knows?
I suppose I could always get a web site going and get work through there. Hmmmm, that's almost a good idea (I think) Mind-you, I'm no web designer, I'm a print guy.
Well Adam, you've been doing it for a while, what do you think my possibilities are?

Awesome, dude. Congrats!
I might actually be getting my first freelance job soon. It's rough. Fro me, anyway -- I imagine you do well, Adam, you and your bro. I'm starting to get a little name out there. It's weird when people notice you in online chats or send you e-mails and stuff. Mostly Nintendo fan mail, but hey.
