I am not sure how wide you want to go. Since you mentioned USB I am going to assume that you are looking for some injet printer that would print pages bigger than U.S. letter size. What you can do is take a look at the this page: http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/p_..._Printers.php3

This is the page of supported printers by Gimp Print under OSX. I would imagine that if you looked at those printers there, maybe do some online research for comparisons and reviews, you could make up your mind.

For really big plots you could get an HP 5000, it is amazing as far as speed and quality goes...but kind of expensive and takes up lot of space.

You guessed right, I am not looking for one of those multi-thousand dye sublimated jobs. I want something that prints in a larger format than normal. The only two I have heard of in recent memory (and web searches, actually) are the Epson 1280 and the Canon S9000. Both got OK reviews. I was wondering if there was lone wolf out there that I missed. We had an Epson 1520(?) that just died and since we now have USB ports on our trusty S900, I thought to upgrade.

Any further help would be much appreciated.

thanks,

I have an Epson 1160 at home, and I use a 1280 for comps at work and both of em are champs. The only pain is that occasionally the paper feed will act stupid and paper will jam repeatedly unless its in there PERFECTLY. BUT, both are great printers. I wouldn't use the GIMP print list as a reference for printers that work on X since last I looked, GIMP print doesn't support colorsync. Plus their is the whole, head cleaning/calibration thing that you can only get from _real_ drivers. I'd recommend that while looking at printers just double check that they have drivers.
