I'm thinking of buying a Canon EOS300V with a couple of lenses from here and was wondering if anyone had any views on the camera.

Also, can anyone clarify the difference between USM and non-USM lenses for me please.

Thanks

Adam

the camera is (i assume) the euro version of the eos rebel ti (us version). it is a pretty good entry level slr.

usm standsfor "ultra sonic motor", and is the auto-focus system employed by eos slr cameras. it is very fast and very quiet. in general, most new or recent canon lenses will be usm lenses, but not all.

Yes it is the UK/EU version.

I think I'll probably get it once i've sorted my finances.

Thanks

I love canons, life time fan and user. I have an EOS Elan 2 which I've used for like 6 years and its still kicks ass. Its alot more higher end than the EOS300, but Canons last. You'll probably get a good lifespan out of it. I'm not sure about the rebel series, I have one friend who has one and likes it as an entry level camera and has no complaints. I've never heard of anyone having a bad experience from a Canon.

Thanks...

Although I have had an interest in photography for a while, I've never really had a decent camera, so thought I'd get one which will hopefully last me well into middle age!!

I know my dad's had his Cannon for about 10 years and it still works great.

I've read good things about the EOS300v as you can use it as a fully automatic, but also a manual giving me the opportunity to experiment with shutter speed etc...
I was also going to go for the 300v as it has a new metal lense mount, rather than the plastic mount on the lower end 300.

Hey,

300V are running around 350€ here and I was considering of picking one up for those times when my G3 just does not cut it in terms of zoom and speed. I have a question though, will the 300V be able to use all EOS lenses? Because I was considering of picking up one of the larger telephoto lenses for F1 GP events, where taking photos with G3 + teleconverter lense = me wishing I had an EOS D60 or better with a mad telephoto lense

Please let me know of 300V can use the entire range of EOS lenses

Unfortunately there is a misunderstanding about "USM".

Yes, some cheaper Canon lenses are labeled USM, but they do not have the big advantage of a "real" USM lense: quick, quiet AND manually adjust the focussing after letting the camera decide to do an auto-focus, without cumbersome setting the lense to "manual focus" again.

I would rather go for one lense: the 28-105 3.5-4.5 (or 24-85). But they cost more than the body alone.

You might want to look at:

I'm-a trying to wonder, wonder, wonder why you, wonder, wonder why you act so.
