Anyone know what happened to the Quark forums? I can't seem to get them to come up in my browser any more...

Thanks,
Eric

When I try to reach Quark's Forums through the link under the Support menu on their front page, after a few minutes I eventually get this error message:

"Web Crossing off

"Could not reach the Web Crossing server -- server error: CGI TCP Connection Failed

"Please try again later"

I take it from this that they haven't turned the forums back on since posting the modifications they've made to the web site; the web site itself [as I'm sure you're aware] was mostly unavailable from Friday through Monday.

Considering that the modifications to the web site took several days, I'm not exactly holding my breath waiting for the forums to come back.

i was on it last night and things looked like they might be back up and running. didn't checkout the forums though.

funny, do they actually think that posting a screen grab of the new gui, which happens to be two years behind the times, will get us excited about q.v.6?

NOW they promise multiple undos.

only works on os x -- good, then maybe there will be a full migration to jaguar.

"Don't miss future sneak peeks at QuarkXPress 6 features" -- traslation: we don't have a friggin' clue as to how to make this work on os x.

Get full-resolution preview functionality when you register your software with Quark!

After purchasing QuarkXPress 6, register online to receive an add-on that provides full-resolution preview of on-screen images.

Full-resolution preview displays images at the file's full resolution. Scale or magnify images with minimal pixelation and position page elements more precisely.
how very generous of them. why not just put it on the friggin' disk? how long will buyers need to wait for that functionality?

Full res preview is one of the last things on my list really. I could take it or leave it. The multiple undoes is definitely a *must have* though. Of course I'm so used to not screwing up I'll probably still use version 6 like it was version 4 all over again

Actually one of the most pressing concerns for me is how version 6 will handle XTensions. Most of us out here in "The styx" have gotten used to using many unique XTensions that may not even be available on an OSX native version.

The company I now work for actually produces an XTension for Quark which handles pagination and merging data and images into very large books (They do phone books). Many many of our programmers will be busting thier collective butts trying to re-write this software. Or at least that's how I see it.

as an art director full rez preview is perhaps my top priority. this jagged eps look (ie. logos) is crap.
